Edwin Galve-Lemus, 32, of Bridgeport, was arrested around 6 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, by the Monroe Police Department with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the Bridgeport Police Department, said Monroe Police Lt. Stephen Corrone.
Galve-Lemus was taken into custody on a warrant at a residence on Orchard Street in Bridgeport, Corrone said.
Police had been searching for Galve-Lemus since at incident at Masuk High School on Nov, 20.
During the incident the school's resource officer was altered to a man in a vehicle who was getting in and out of the car, approaching female students, Corrone said.
When the officer located the car, a 1999 Honda Accord, with Galve-Lemus inside, in the school's parking lot.
When the officer approached him, Galve-Lemus place his vehicle in drive and fled at a high rate of speed.
In the process of fleeing, he struck the officer with the driver’s side mirror of the vehicle and he dragged her several feet.
As Galve-Lemus fled he failed to stop for a stop sign, almost striking an oncoming vehicle. A short pursuit followed ending in the driveway of 1000 Monroe Turnpike where he jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a heavily wooded area, Corrone said.
Masuk High School was secured, while members of the Monroe Police Department set up a perimeter around the area and began the search. K-9’s from the State Police and the Newtown Police Department drone were utilized in the search.
During the course of the search, the suspect was identified as Galves-Lemus, Corrone added.
After a long search, Galves-Lemus was not located and a warrant for his arrest was obtained the following day.
After being taken into custody Galves-Lemus was charged with assault on public safety, breach of peace, reckless endangerment, criminal trespass, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, and failure to obey stop sign.
He is being held on a $55,000 bond.
